5 Tips to Help You Stress Less When You’re Stressed Out

807561379_e6771a7c8e_zI mentioned in yesterday’s post that I started back to work yesterday. I am a technology integration specialist for my school district. The first days back are set aside for professional development. We learn about all of the new initiatives in our district and how we can support teachers.

I will be the first to tell you that I LOVE learning new things. I am what educators call a lifelong learner. I am curious about things and I am happily challenged by new adventures in education.  But there comes a point in a very long day of professional development that your brain becomes overloaded and you are just stressed out!

So what do you do when you are stressed out?

Here are my 5 tips to help you stress less:

1. Listen to something that will get your mind off things  

Listening to calming music. Jazz or praise music is extremely calming for me. Music has been proven to slow your heart rate and decrease stress hormones. Create a playlist that you can play specifically for times when you are stressed.

2. Talk it out    

My husband and I share the good, bad, ugly, and boring things about our day as soon as we walk through the door. We use each other as sounding boards and to build each other up. I always feel better after talking to him about a stressful day.

I know this might be a weird one but it really works for me! Creating a new board for a fun project that I have in mind or adding pins to existing boards helps me take my mind off of my stressors. I have a board full of scripture pins that calm me and a board that’s named Calm that it full of pins that show pictures that I find calming.

4. Write                                                                                                                

 Writing is one of the most cathartic things for me. It is one of subjects I miss most in teaching. I am a lover of words. Writing helps to put things in perspective.  It can help us realize that our stressors can be overcome or that they’re really not as bad as we make them seem.

5. Pray                                                                                                                          

This is the FIRST thing that I do when I get stressed. A small breath and cry to God can make you feel like the world has been lifted. God knew that life would be hard. He knew that there would be situations in life that would anger, frustrate, infuriate and make us a big ole ball of stress. Be He is there for us and just waiting for our cry! Here are a few of my favorite scriptures that I turn to so that I stress less. They are the scriptures that make my heart leap because I know God is there for me! He’s there for you too!

 “Cast all your anxiety on him because He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7

 “And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?”  Matthew 6:27 16404623337_000102ce9f_z

 “And we know all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

When the stressors in life come try some or all of these tips and watch God work all things for your good.
